A police head constable has been suspended for allegedly raping, stalking and threatening a female bank employee for two years, while his brother-in-law, also a police official, has been transferred to another station.
Ranjeetsinh Mori (32) was suspended by Surat police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut, Deputy Commissioner Zone 2 Bhagirath Gadhvi told The Indian Express.
Mori had been serving at the Udhna police station for the past few years, living in the Rampura police line area with his wife and two children.
Mori’s brother-in-law Jayesh Dodiya, who was serving with the Salabatpura police station, was transferred to the Hazira police station on the outskirts of the city. Police sources said that Dodiya was putting “pressure” on the complainant to withdraw her complaint.
When police reached his house to arrest Mori, they found him missing. “Mori is still at large and our teams are searching for him,” said Gadhvi.
A 29-year-old woman, working as an assistant manager with a bank, lodged a complaint of rape, threat to life, and stalking with the Dindoli police station against Mori on September 6.
The complainant alleged that she was raped by the accused cop after he entered her house when she was alone on June 21, 2024. She also alleged that he tried to force her to marry him. The complaint adds that the accused allegedly regularly stalked her when she visited the bank and broke glass off her car while she was returning home.

On September 5, she further alleged, the accused came to her house when she was alone and tried to rape her again. It was when she shouted that the accused quickly left, the complaint alleged.
On Wednesday, she went to the police commissioner’s office and complained that Jayesh Dodhiya was pressurising her to withdraw her last complaint.
