Gujarat: Platform tickets not to be sold at 6 rly stations

With an aim to manage the crowd and ensure seamless passenger movement amid the festive season, the Ahmedabad and Vadodara divisions of Western Railway (WR) have decided to ban the sale of platform tickets across six stations in Gujarat.

The Ahmedabad Division of WR suspended the sale of platform tickets across three railway stations — Ahmedabad (Kalupur), Sabarmati, and Asarwa.

The development came in the backdrop of increasing rush at Ahmedabad railway station, especially with the migrant workers trying to return home for Diwali and Chhath Puja. As of now, only passengers with valid travel tickets will be permitted to enter the railway stations.

While the decision came into effect from October 27 and will remain in force till November 6, it was announced Monday morning. Amid the ongoing festive season, trains like Jansadharan Express which ferries migrant workers to states in North and East India have been recording huge rush. A member of the WR Regional Rail Users Consultative Committee on Friday and Saturday wrote to the Western Railway general manager seeking special trains during the festive season. Sale of platform tickets has also been suspended at Vadodara, Bharuch and Chhayapuri stations till November 10. The suspension was imposed at Vadodara, Bharuch and Chhayapuri stations of Vadodara Division of WR.

The step was imposed for better crowd management during the festive season, said a statement from the railway authorities. It added, “The move is aimed at controlling congestion on platforms and ensuring smooth movement of passengers. The ban on sale of platform tickets during Diwali and Chhath Puja will be applicable with immediate effect till November 10.” Senior citizens and people with medical history have been exempted from these restrictions.
