Pipeline leak leads to another pit

Days after a puncture in the mega storm water pipeline along the BRTS route was repaired in Behrampura ward,another,deeper pit,has been created in the area,affecting normal traffic.

The pit had to be dug up to repair a leakage in a GRC (glass reinforced concrete) pipe,said a south zone projects department official. He said the leak would have been caused due to additional pressure on the pipeline,which if not attended to immediately,might cause bigger pit and inundation in the area. He said the lamination of the pipes should get over this week.

Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd (AJL) officials are,however,not happy with the way the engineering projects department is handling things especially in this present case. They have not intimated us in advance about their plans to open the spot for the repair work. Had they told us in advance,the current traffic problem could have been avoided, said a senior AJL official.

The official said the place where repair work is going on is on the trouble spots,thanks to local factors and a faulty design,because of which every time a vehicle comes in from Danilimda side,it tends to enter the dedicated rapid transit track.
