PGVCL officials attacked by mob in Bhesan taluka

Officials of the Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) were attacked by a mob in Mota-Gujariya village of Bhesan taluka on Wednesday while they were conducting an anti-power theft drive in the village.

Officials of the Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) were attacked by a mob in Mota-Gujariya village of Bhesan taluka on Wednesday while they were conducting an anti-power theft drive in the village. A complaint has been lodged against the mob in this regard with the Bhesan police.

According to the complaint,the mob pelted stones at the vehicles of the PGVCL officials and manhandled some officials. The incident has forced the PGVCL team to leave the village.

Sources said that the entire villages power supply was cut off following the incident and remained disconnected till Thursday noon.

However,PGVCL officials maintained that power supply was cut off for general maintenance purpose and is a part of the pre-monsoon repairing drive.

K B Patel,Deputy Engineer,PGVCL-Bhesan,lodged a complaint with the Bhesan police against Valku Kathi,the main accused and 10 others of the same village for physically assaulting the officials and preventing them from performing their duty.

The police have registered a case under Sections 143,147,148,149 (rioting),186,332 (preventing officials from performing their official duty) and 506 (2) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to a PGVCL official,though the power supply in the village was cut off as a punishment,it was restored after some hours. The power supply was again cut off on Thursday,but for a different reason,the official said,adding,Pre-monsoon scheduled repairing was underway in three feeders of the region on Thursday.

S A Joshi,sub-Inspector,Bhesan police,said: No one has been arrested so far. Further investigations are on and the accused will be nabbed soon.
