Union Jal Shakti minister C R Paatil laid the foundation stone of five borewells at the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University on Friday. The recharge of over 200 borewells at the university’s 210-acres land will be carried out through public-private partnership.

On the occasion, the Union Minister explained the importance of rainwater harvesting to the people of Surat as part of the Prime Minister’s ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign and appealed to them to build borewells in their homes and housing societies to store water.

Calling “Jalsanchay” (storage of water) a public-participation scheme, he said that with the help of the government, the collective efforts of citizens, local organisations and industries, the problem of water scarcity can be completely overcome in the years to come.
