The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered a case against Sonkar on June 29, 2006, on the allegations that he had amassed assets disproportionate to his known source of income between October 1, 2002 and June 21, 2006.
The accused’s assets, according to a statement from the CBI on Monday, were initially found disproportionate to the tune of Rs 14.11 lakh, which was 84% in excess to his known source of income. After completion of investigation, a chargesheet was filed by CBI on January 24, 2008.
By the end of the probe, the CBI had revised the amount of DA to Rs 22.15 lakh. It further found that the DA had been amassed over a much longer period, going back a further two years, between January 1, 2000 and July 1, 2006, bringing the percentage of DA to 62% in excess to his known source of income.
The court found the accused guilty and sentenced him accordingly, according to the CBI statement.
