Non-Resident Indians are undertaking a Dandi Walk II “against corruption” in 12 Indian cities and eight foreign countries beginning this March 12. The main walk will be for 240 miles in California in the US,organisers said.
“NRIs are also concerned citizens of India,” said Rajkumar Sinh,an NRI from America, who addressed a press conference near the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad on Friday.
The collective’s website said the march is “to revive the soul force and spirit of dissent of those great Indians of generation past,to fight those who seek to enslave their own country”.
“So far,we have about 800 people registered on the website, who will join us in the sections of the Dandi Walk II. We anticipate that there will be more participants joining who did not register (online registration is not a must to join the march),” said Srihari Atluri, one of the organisers via email.
“We have six persons who will walk the entire 240 miles,” added Atluri.
The website lists a host of organisations supporting the march, which includes Baba Ramdev’s Bharat Swamibhan.
“Dandi Walk II is being organised by group of NRIs who are vexed on corruption in India in recent years. After we started this initiative, organisations came forward to give their valuable support. We fight against corruption and are willing to associate with any organisation with common agenda of fighting against corruption,” said Varma Dantuluri, another organiser, via email.
