Politicians and political parties may soon get rated just like restaurants and movies, thanks to a portal started by two Ahmedabad-based entrepreneurs. One of them was a recipient of Chief Minister Narendra Modis fellowship when it was flagged off in 2009.
Nationsroot.com with around 8,000 profiles of global political leaders,500 political parties,5 lakh viewers and 1,000-plus followers is the brainchild of Jwalant Patel and his partner Chintan Patel. Jwalant was a student of engineering. The website was founded in July.
This is the only platform of its kind that gives voters a chance to apprise their leaders and rate their performance, claimed Jwalant, adding that with five states Madhya Pradesh,Delhi,Mizoram,Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan going to the polls, voters can voice their grievances and review work done by their local leaders through this website. Politicians will be rated on parameters like electricity, water, education, healthcare, sanitation, roads, nutrition, tourism, telecommunication, animal husbandry, employment, security, and banking situations in their respective constituencies. Based on reviews and ratings, the portal will upload their report cards,he added.
With detailed profiles of more than 540 Indian MPs and 5,000 MLAs,the site has over 4,000 page views everyday and generates 2,500 users per day. Last week saw the website add the US,the UK,Canada and Austria; it plans to expand its geographical footprints to 13 more countries.
Incidentally,Jwalant was among the first batch of Modi Fellows who completed 11-month stint with the Planning department. He prepared a paper,Villages & Taluka Profiles for Gujarat: Centralized Database Management System and Utilization, which paved the way for the creation of this portal. He reported to former bureaucrat Varun Maira. I was asked to gather demographic data for a small taluka in south Gujarat. Once the portal picks up,we plan to let voters interact directly with their local MLAs and MPs; we will build linkages with leaders from different parties, he added.
