Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nalin Bhatt today deposed before the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Gandhinagar in connection with the Gulberg Society massacre case. Bhatt was Gujarat BJP general secretary during the 2002 riots.
I cannot speak about it as the matter is sub-judice, Bhatt said,adding,Whatever the SIT asked me,I answered honestly. I told them the truth.
Bhatts deposition before the SIT went on for about three hours on Saturday afternoon.
After issuing summons to Chief Minister Narendra Modi,the SIT also summoned Bhatt for Gulberg riots case following a complaint by Zakia Jafri,widow of slain Congress leader Ehsan Jafri.
Earlier,the Nanavati Commission had called Bhatt in February 2005 for questioning. Bhatt,after quitting the BJP,had joined the Bahujan Samaj Party.
He later resigned from BSP and is now convenor of the Vadodara-based Deendayal Sangharsh Samiti.
