President Droupadi Murmu at Shrimad Ramchandra Mission at Dharampur in Valsad on Tuesday. (Express File Photo)President Droupadi Murmu Tuesday urged members of the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in Gujarat to educate themselves and their children and develop skills to become financially self-reliant instead of depending on government welfare schemes.
“You should become self-reliant and provide a good education to your children. You should thank the government for whatever it is providing, but you should try on your own to become self-reliant. You should think in the direction of developing skills to become financially strong,” she said addressing a group of PVTGs at Dharampur in Valsad.
The President also apprised the PVTG community of the PM JANMAN, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 15, last year. “The purpose of this scheme is that the tribal people get the benefit of roads, water healthcare, school, employment, etc. The tribals should take advantage of this scheme and also make other tribals aware of it,” she said.
The PVTG community should send their children to school, educate themselves and make progress in life. They should make efforts instead of waiting for the government benefits, and try to get information about the government schemes, she said.
Earlier in the day, Murmu visited the Shrimad Rajchandra Mission headquarters in Dharampur, a spiritual movement associated with Jainism, marking the first-ever visit of any president to the tribal-dominated taluka. She also inaugurated a newly built Raj Sabhagruh (meditation centre).
The President said Shrimad Rajchandra’s vast knowledge and character left an imprint on Mahatma Gandhi. Murmu said today most of the people are running after material happiness and wealth in such a race which cannot have a happy ending.
“They have forgotten what they really want in life. We are slowly forgetting our spiritual wealth. I cannot say that one should not earn wealth. But we should remember that along with earning wealth, mental peace, equanimity, restraint and good conduct are also very important,” she said.
Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, who also attended the event, said, “Morbi in Gujarat is a pious place where two great people — Swami Dayanand Saraswati and Shrimad Rajchandra Maharaj — were born. Mahatma Gandhi took blessings from Shripad Rajchandra and took impetus from him at different time intervals.”
