The Lok Sabha privileges committee has decided to summon the district collector of Dahod, district superintendent of police and two deputy superintendents of police following a complaint by Congress MP Prabha Kishor Taviad that she was manhandled on May1,while she was on her way to attend the Gujarat Divas celebrations at Dahod.
Taviad had raised the matter in the Lok Sabha on May 2. Senior Congress MP Girija Vyas had alleged that Taviad was pulled by her hair. However, the Gujarat government had dismissed Taviads allegation and claimed that the action taken against her was a part of the administrative process.
While Taviad had contended that she was prevented from attending the official function, the state government maintained that she, along with four Congress MLAs and their supporters, were trying to stage a demonstration near the venue of the function.
The privileges committee chairman,P C Chacko, said they would also ask Taviad to appear before the panel and provide whatever additional evidence she had. Other officials, including the state director general of police, may be called,he said.
Meanwhile, the committee did not discuss the breach of privilege notice against Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal, filed by Congress members Jagdambika Pal and Sajjan Singh Verma.
The matter is likely to come up before the committee at the next meeting.
