Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday instructed the construction of more than one lakh bori-bandhs across the state on an urgent basis. The decision was taken at a meeting with senior officials to review the situation in the wake of the delay in rains.
The construction is aimed at facilitating rain water storage following rains expected after August 25.
The CM also instructed providing adequate power as well as water for irrigation so that crop failure can be avoided.
According to state government figures,at present,70 million unit of power is being provided for agriculture compared to 40 million unit supplied during last years monsoon.
Also 9,000 cusecs of water is being released from the Narmada. Instructions have been issued to the authorities concerned to prevent the flow of water from the Sardar Sarovar into the sea.
