The Ahmedabad Rural Police will, on Monday, present five minors before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) a day after they were booked for allegedly physically and sexually assaulting a teenaged boy in a hostel and making a video.

PI RD Gojiya of the Dhandhuka police station said that the minors were detained on Sunday. Notably, the police will be asking the Board to consider treating the five accused as adults in the case.

On March 8, a video, about four minutes long, went viral on social media, where it was seen that two minors were physically and sexually assaulting a minor. The video was purportedly taken in a village in the Dhandhuka taluka in Rural Ahmedabad.

Dhandhuka police said that a primary investigation confirmed that the video depicted minors in a community hostel in the village. Police went to the spot and conducted a confirmatory investigation. PI RD Gojiya formed separate teams and launched a thorough investigation into the matter.

Police traced the house of the victim and reached out to the family. He and his family were given counselling, and the police urged his parents to file a complaint against the minors who had allegedly assaulted their son. The father did so, and Dhandhuka police filed an FIR based on this complaint, booking five minors of the same hostel under sections of the POCSO Act and the Information Technology Act.

A statement from the Ahmedabad Rural police on Sunday said that apart from strict legal action against the accused, counselling of the victim by the Child Welfare Committee would continue, and that a process to grant compensation to the survivor had also been initiated.

The police further made an appeal to people to stop sharing the video on social media.
