Reaching a significant stage of implementing the Gandhi Ashram Memorial & Precinct Development project, the Mahatma Gandhi Sabarmati Ashram Memorial Trust (MGSAMT) has floated a tender worth Rs 150.75 crore for various works which are likely to give final shape to the redeveloped ashram precinct, said a top official associated with the project.
The MGSAMT is a trust established by the Gujarat government to implement the Rs 1,200 crore project which is a joint effort of the state government and the Centre.
The latest tender issued by the MGSAMT relates to external infrastructure development including civil, mechanical, electrical and fire fighting among others. It will include the operation and maintenance of the external infrastructure, to be developed for five years.
Released on January 4, the tender will be closed on January 27.
Sources connected to the project said that the tender works will include pathways in the 55-acre campus which is being redeveloped, a stormwater drainage system, drainage, electrification, lighting, CCTV surveillance, benches, tree pits, plug points, integrated light poles-bollards, stone bollards, building uplighters, dustbins, and drinking water kiosks among others.
The campus will have around 3-km long pipes for stormwater disposal, and pathways running into around a total of 3.5 km along with paver blocks. The pathways will be of different sizes like 3 metres, 6 metres and 9 metres.
An official said that all the buildings of the campus will be connected after the completion of works covered under the latest tender.
Under the project, the MGSAMT has issued several tenders for different works like the restoration of old buildings and the construction of the boundary wall for the campus.
As per the redevelopment plan, the stretch of Ashram road that cut through the existing Gandhi Ashram has already been closed and vehicular traffic diverted.
Highlighting the significance of the latest tender, a top official connected with the project said, “Till now, all the buildings are located in a scattered manner as standalone pieces. After the completion of works in this tender, all the buildings will be connected along with various other facilities. So, the redeveloped ashram will come out as a synchronised campus with pathways joining every point.”
