A 32-year-old man was on Tuesday given life sentence by a Special POCSO Judge of the District Court in Navsari following conviction over rape and abduction of a 12-year-old girl.

Saddam Hussain was convicted of kidnapping the minor and taking her to Uttar Pradesh.
Public Prosecutor Ajay Tailor said, “We emphasised before the court that strict punishment should be given to the accused to set an example in the society that nobody dares to do such crime. The  accused is still in judicial custody since his arrest.”

The case was reported last April. After the girl went missing and they could not find her, they contacted the Navsari rural police station and lodged a missing complaint on April 4, 2021. The cops caught the accused from UP where he had taken the minor. About two weeks after the arrest of the accused, the girl’s mother lodged a complaint of rape and kidnapping under different sections of the IPC, and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
A medical examination of both the accused and the girl was carried out by police at the Navsari Civil Hospital. The accused was sent to judicial custody after his police remand period.
