Around 400 residents of Rajpipla town in Narmada district have approached the district magistrate after the local barbers hiked shaving and hair-cutting charges by five rupees.

Incidentally,DM Vikrant Pandey has actually decided to have a word with the barbers’ association to sort out the matter.

A couple of months ago,the Rajpipla Barbers Association hiked rates citing an increase in material costs.

Natu Nai of Rajpipla Barbers Association, said: “We have hiked the price of hair cutting from Rs 20 to Rs 25. For shaving we will now charge Rs 15. The charges are being hiked after a long time. The living costs have increased drastically. We live in a small town but it has affected us too.”

Salim Maniyar, among the signatories to the memorandum, said: “They are trying to mint money. We understand that those with a proper shop have to spend on maintenance, but now even roadside barbers have started charging Rs 25,which is ridiculous.”

Pandey said: “I will look into the matter and will meet representatives from both sides.”
