Somnath Marine Police and LCB staff raided the part of the coast where they found two men and the boat filled with liquor. (Express Photo)The Gir-Somnath police on Monday seized Rs 12.29 lakh worth of liquor which was being smuggled into Gujarat from the Union Territory of Daman by boat.
The Local Crime Branch (LCB) led by PI AB Jadeja, which was on alert in the run-up to the New Year, received a tip-off that a boat filled with liquor would be arriving in the dry state from Daman.
Accordingly, Somnath Marine Police and LCB staff raided the part of the coast where they found two men and the boat filled with liquor.
According to a statement on Tuesday, Rs 1.63 lakh worth of Old Monk XXX Rum, Rs 2.40 lakh worth of All Seasons Golden Collection Reserve Whiskey, Rs 67,200 worth of Krimpi’s Special Whiskey which is a local brand manufactured in Daman, and Rs 46,600 worth of Budweiser Magnum beer were seized.
The police arrested Arif Gafur Bhensaliya Machhiyara and Idris Allahrakha Multani, both residents of the Dwarka district. They are yet to arrest four more accused from Gujarat and six persons in Daman.
The police also seized both the Yamaha Enduro engines of the boat.
