The Gujarat ATS on Sunday brought brought Abu Jundal,alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba operative and key handler of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks,to Ahmedabad in connection with the 2006 Kalupur railway station blast and ISI conspiracy cases.
Jundal,who has now been formally arrested in the two cases,will be produced before an Ahmedabad court on Monday where the ATS would seek his custody.
ATS DIG Manoj Shashidhar said,Abu Jundal was brought (to the city) late in the evening from Delhi. He was involved in the blast at the Kalupur railway station and recruiting youths as part of an ISI conspiracy,which was unearthed by the Gujarat Police.
The blast at the railway station had left 25 people injured. According to the police,the blast was carried out by LeT to avenge the 2002 riots.
Jundal is also accused of recruiting youths from Gujarat allegedly to send them to Pakistan for terror camps. The ISI conspiracy was busted in time otherwise Jundal and his men would have recruited a huge number of youths in LeT and other terrorist outfits, Shashidhar said.
ATS sources said Jundal is a close aide of Aslam Kashmiri,currently lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi. Aslam had studied had at Tarkeshwar madrassa in Bharuch and is suspected to have recruited young boys from Beed,Aurangabad and Gujarat,officials said.
