A woman was injured when a low-intensity bomb,sent in a parcel,exploded at her house in Ambawad village of Una taluka in Junagadh district on Friday morning. The parcel was reportedly meant for her son.
The police have arrested the alleged sender,who is said to be a former lover of the woman’s daughter-in-law.
The arrested,Kirit Kalu Sedhiya from Una,is suspected to have made the bomb and parcelled it to the victims house. The parcel that exploded contained a detonator,gelatine sticks,wires and batteries said the Junagadh Special Operation Group.
The victim,Gulab Vaghasia (48) had opened one of the two parcel boxes lying at her house. The parcels were addressed to her son,Bhavesh who got married to Chetna a month back. The family told the police that Bhavesh was getting death threats for a month and was asked to divorce his wife. Bhavesh had also filed an application in Una police station one week back,stating that Kirit was threatening him. When Bhavesh who was supposedly in Rajkot for two days,Gulabs husband asked her to open the parcel which exploded. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital for treatment.
This is a case of a jilted lover who wanted to take revenge from his former girlfriends husband. We have recovered materials that were used to make the bomb. The accused is a paralyzed man. We are questioning him to know who all are involved, said Dipankar Trivedi,SP Junagadh.
The accused,Kirit and Chetna were in a relationship till he met with an accident that left him paralyzed after which Chetnas parents called off her engagement with Kirit.
The Junagadh Special Operation Group that raided Kirits house with a bomb detection and dog squad. The police found detonators,gelatine sticks and mobile batteries from his house. The materials have been sent to the forensic lab for further tests.
The police have booked a case of attempt to murder under Section 307,criminal intimidation by anonymous communication under Section 507 and criminal conspiracy under Section 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code and the Explosives Act.
