IT sector on the mend post-meltdown

Several companies like Azure,e-infochips and Motif are in the process of expanding their base in India to serve the domestic customers. As the IT penetration is increasing in the rural areas,such companies are now increasing the scale and scope of their work.

The loss of customers in foreign countries during the economic crisis in 2008 has also forced the companies to have a varied customer base with a higher domestic share. US-based BPO Motif Inc is looking forward to open another centre in the state and will finalise its plans soon. The company will recruit around 1,000 employees with the addition of another centre. The centre will come up in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) that is expected to be finalised in 2010.

The company has one centre in Gujarat and is looking to open another in an IT SEZ,which will be finalised in 2010, said Chris Meneze,CEO of Motif.

Motif,which is backed by private equity investors,runs its service delivery operations from centres in Ahmedabad as also Manila in Philippines and San Jose in Costa Rica. The company also announced its global expansion plans as part of its risk mitigation strategy for the customers. Our company with a workforce of 1,500 plans to increase the headcount up to 10,000 in the next three to four years, Meneze said.

Gujarat Electronics and Software Industries Association,the premier trade body and the chamber of commerce of the Gujarat IT-ITES industry,believes that the scale of IT companies is going up.
