With about Rs 2,500 crore of black money being declared under the Income Disclosure Scheme (IDS) in Surat at the end of four-month scheme on Friday by around 1,800 businessmen, including Rs 500 crore on Friday alone, the Surat Region of IT commissionerate tops in state while the total amount of IDS in Gujarat stood at Rs 4,200 crore, sources said.
On the last day, Friday, a real estate developer of City Light area in Surat had made a disclosure of Rs 92 crore under IDS. He was followed by two other real estate developers from Varachha area with Rs 70 crore and Rs 50 crore, respectively, under this IDS. As much as 60 per cent of the IDS amount came from realtors.
According to sources in the I-T department of Surat, disclosures to the tune of Rs 4,200 crore had been made from Gujarat state and Surat topped the list with Rs 2,500 crore mark. It is to be noted that in last one hour — from 11.00 pm to 12.00 midnight — on Friday night, a total of Rs 100 crore was disclosed by the businessmen of Surat.
