The Vadodara Special Operations Group (SOG) on Thursday arrested four youths from the Walled City area on charges of betting on the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches.

The Vadodara Special Operations Group (SOG) on Thursday arrested four youths from the Walled City area on charges of betting on the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches.
The accused have been identified as Piyush Kesarichand Shah,Hardik Avinash Parikh,Kamlesh alias Kanu Rana and Hirendra alias Bobby Kishanchand Nankani.
Sub-Inspector K B Gamit said the youths were travelling from Dabhoi to Vadodara when they were caught. Wadi Inspector R G Bhavsar said: “They travelled in a car and struck deals with their clients through mobile phones.”
SI Gamit said the accused had collected about Rs 1 lakh for the semi-final match.
“We found five cellphones,one Wagon R and a motorcycle,totalling Rs 2 lakh,along with Rs 1 lakh cash from the accused,” said SI Gamit.
Later,a complaint was lodged at the Wadi police Station.

31committees to continue under present chiefs: GCCI
A fortnight after the dissolution of the Executive Committee of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI),chairmen of 31 committees of the chamber were asked to continue in their positions on Thursday. The decision was taken at a meeting of the High Power Committee and Steering Committee headed by Karsanbhai Patel and Sanjay Lal,respectively. High Power committee spokesman Jehangir Cama later said the committees under their respective chairmen would continue to function as earlier. However,the Swarnim Gujarat Celebration committee would be recast in a short time,he said. The committee also appointed Shell Hazira MD and CEO Nitin Shukla as member of the Steering Committee,Cama said.

Teenager hangs self,fire officials rescue girl from Sabarmati
A 16-year-old boy committed suicide reportedly after his parents did not allow him to go on a holiday after his Class X Board exams. Police said the deceased,Abhi Rana,a resident of Ranchod Park Society,wanted to go to Mount Abu. He was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile,the Ahmedabad fire and emergency services rescued a girl from the Sabarmati after she reportedly jumped off the Sardar Bridge to commit suicide near Jamapur on Thursday. The girl was identified as Payal Patel,a resident of Borsad Towers. She was later handed over to her parents in unconscious state,said fire officials.
