Gujarat’s Rajkot game zone fire kills 28: All you need to know

Here are the top 10 developments from Gujarat’s Rajkot game zone fire tragedy:

📌 A massive fire broke out at an indoor game zone in Gujarat’s Rajkot city on Saturday, killing 28 people, including children, and injuring nine people.

📌 The TRP private amusement park/ gaming zone did not have a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the fire department, according to officials.

📌  The park was set up under a tin shed with air-conditioners mounted on it. When the fire broke out a part of the shed collapsed trapping several people. According to the officials, the fire started due to an electric short-circuit.

📌 The fire engulfed the two-storey tin-shed with indoor gaming facilities within a few minutes after the fire broke. The indoor gaming zone was a steel-fabricated shed around three-storey tall, 50 metre wide and 60 metre long.

📌 The government has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Additional Director General of Police (CID-crime) Subhash Trivedi, to probe the incident. The team has been asked to submit a preliminary report within three days, followed by a final report within 10 days.

📌 According to the officials, DNA samples of victims and their kin were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Gandhinagar overnight for identification of bodies due to the nature of the burn injuries.

📌  An FIR has been registered against six individuals under IPC sections 304, 308, 336, 338 and 114. Two of the six have been arrested, including the amusement park’s co-owner Yuvrajsinh Solanki, and manager Nitin Jain. Both of them have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and are currently in police custody.

📌  The Gujarat High Court has also sought a report from the state government and municipal corporations regarding the provisions of law under which gaming zones and recreational facilities are permitted to operate. The The special bench of Justices Biren Vaishnav and Devan Desai, said it is “shocked” and termed the tragedy a “man-made disaster”.

📌  The authorities have released a list on Sunday of 26 missing people, including at least seven minors.

📌 Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced that the state government will provide Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. Later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office announced
ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the families of those who died, and Rs 50,000 to those injured.
