The current rainfall figure is equivalent to the total rain receipt the state recorded in 2022 — the highest in the three years after 2021. Notably, September 15 is the normal date of withdrawal of monsoon from the state.

The figures are expected to rise further with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rain for this week as well. It has issued a heavy rainfall warning for three days, till September 11, in eastern and a few northern districts along with light to moderate rainfall in other parts of the state.

The fresh showers have been attributed to the monsoon trough that continues to pass through Bikaner, Narnaul, Jhansi, Damoh, Mana, Puri and to the centre of depression over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, along with a cyclonic circulation over central Rajasthan and the neighbourhood.
