7 killed during flash floods in Gujarat’s Jamnagar, 514 cattle also dead
Floods abate, Gujarat Government orders free distribution of grass for livestock.

Seven people including two children and 514 cattle heads were killed during the recent flash floods caused by a heavy downpour in Jamnagar. However, even as the flood situation improved, electricity supply to 302 villages in three districts of Saurashtra and Kutch regions remained disrupted as of Saturday afternoon.
Officers of the district disaster control room in Jamnagar said four people were killed in Jamnagar city and three in rural areas of the district during the flash floods. The latest death was reported after the body of Sandeepsinh Ker, a resident of Thavariya village in Jamnagar taluka who was swept away in floodwaters, was found on Saturday. “His body was recovered Saturday afternoon, taking the death toll in the recent flash flood in the district to seven,” Mahendra Chavda, mamlatdar in-charge of the disaster control branch in the office of Jamnagar district collector, told The Indian Express.
The officer said three deaths were reported on Tuesday. They include Rajesh Pedhadiya, 45, a resident of Latipur village in Dhrol taluka of the district, Parbat Pathar, 55, a farmer of Zinavari village in Jamjodhpur taluka who was swept away in River Vartu while attempting to cross a flooded causeway, and Kanaksinh Jadeja, 46, a resident of Jamnagar city who was also swept away in floodwaters. Three more deaths were reported from Jamnagar city on Thursday when Raj Maru, 14, Pradippari Goswami, 46, and his son Shubhampari Goswami, 11, drowned after being trapped in floodwaters.
“Officially, no one is reported missing in the district now,” Chavda said.
Meanwhile, the state government on Friday directed the forest department to distribute grass free of cost in the flood-affected districts. Through a resolution, the revenue department decided to give dairy farmers, farmers, and cattle herders four kg of grass per cattle head per day with an upper limit of five cattle heads per family. The government also directed mamlatdars in the affected districts to issue grass cards to farmers and cattle herders and to the forest department to give grass to such farmers and cattle herders free of cost from their respective grass godowns in these districts. The government also directed that farmers and cattle herders be given grass for a seven-day quota, or 28 kg per cattle head, in one go.
Meanwhile, as floodwaters receded, local authorities started cleaning and sweeping work in Jamnagar, Dwarka, Raval, etc to clear debris and sludge. However, eight villages in the Jamnagar circle of state-owned power distribution company Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) were without power as of Saturday afternoon. Jamnagar circle distributes power in Jamnagar and Devbhumi Dwarka districts. Similarly, 294 villages in PGVCL’s Bhuj circle were without electricity.
An official release said that as people started returning to their homes from shelter homes post the easing of the flood situation, 411 flood-affected people were paid Rs 2.94 lakh cash doles cumulatively by the government.
