Since Dec 2023, Gujarat govt earned over Rs 94 lakh through liquor sale in GIFT City

Gujarat government has allowed consumption of liquor by those living or working at GIFT City from December 30, 2023.

In a period of a little over a year, Gujarat government has earned Rs 94.19 lakh through the sale of liquor in Gandhinagar’s GIFT City.

The information was shared by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in a written reply to a starred question raised by Congress MLA Amit Chavda on Monday. The CM holds the portfolio of Prohibition and Excise in Gujarat government.

Chavda had sought to know the number of entities given licence to sell liquor at GIFT city as on January 31, 2025. The CM replied that two entities – West India Recreation Projects Private Limited and The Grand Mercure – have been given the licence.

In the last two years, GIFT City has recorded the sale of 3,324 bulk litre spirits, 470 bulk litre wine, and 19,915 bulk litre beer. The state government earned a total Rs 94.19 lakh from the sale.
