The timing of the two announcements related to land reforms and giving ownership rights of plots to 1,100 Maldhari families in Ahmedabad city, made by the BJP-ruled Gujarat government on Tuesday was a talking point in political and administrative circles of Gandhinagar. The state government made the major announcements in two separate press conferences — addressed by Minister of Stae Jagdish Vishvakarma and Health Minister Rushikesh Patel. People at the Secretariat were discussing that the sudden announcement could be an attempt by the ruling BJP to curtail media coverage to the Opposition Congress who was holding two national events in Ahmedabad.
