In memory of former Prime Minister Morarji Desai on his 129 birth anniversary, Gujarat Vidyapith named an auditorium on its campus Morarji Desai Mandapam.

Desai is said to have served at the Vidyapith from 1948 to 1963 in one of the longest such stints and as the Vice-Chancellor and between 1963 and 1995 as the Chancellor.

In another first, students from the Sadra campus, who never earlier got a chance to pay their tributes to Desai, were a part of this event university staff, officials said.
