Clouded by controversies,Gujarat Universitys executive committee was on Friday forced to withdraw the MoUs signed with two private parties for running self-financed five-year integrated professional courses. Confirming the step, acting Vice-Chancellor Dr Mukul Shah said: We have withdrawn the MoUs unconditionally. Dr Shah added that the courses launched by the private parties would continue as usual in the interest of students. He also said the faculty and staff hired by the two groups would continue and be paid salaries and perks as per their recruitment letters. But,he did not mention anything about the university admitting fresh candidates in the courses the following year. He said the courses would, however, remain self-financed though it would be entirely administered by the university. While none of the officials of I Nurture Education Solutions Pvt Limited, which is running the courses under the MoU with GU for three years, were available for comment,Asia Charitable Trusts executive director M P Chandran said: I wrote to the university, requesting withdrawal of the MoU after the controversy over the courses broke out. We did not want to continue under the existing conditions and hence,we requested the acting V-C to consider our request to withdraw the MoU, said Chandran. We didnt want students to suffer, said Chandran, adding that it is good that the university has accommodated the faculty as well. ACT had started two courses in the current session and admitted over 500 students. The MoUs were signed by former V-C Adesh Pal. In fact, these MoUs were the reason for the government to force Pal to resign a week ago. Several people from the varsity as well as some politicians had complained to the government regarding these MoUs.
