The Gujarat Technological University(GTU) on Friday set up an Integrated Training and Placement Cell (ITAPC) to ensure that students from all the engineering, pharmacy and management colleges under it,including those located in interior areas like in Kutch and tribal areas of Dahod and Chhotaudepur, also got campus placement.
There are a total of 102 degree engineering colleges,90 diploma engineering colleges,88 degree pharmacy colleges,16 diploma pharmacy institutes,119 MBA colleges and 66 MCA colleges across the state affiliated with the GTU.
GTU has divided its colleges in seven zones, with senior professors from reputed colleges assisting zonal coordinators in better placement of students from each college of every zone. The zonal coordinators will also assist in capacity building of placement officers of individual colleges in their areas.
The decision was taken by GTU as the benefit of campus placement was generally limited to colleges located in important centres like Ahmedabad,Vadodara,Gandhinagar and Surat. The students from the rest of the colleges were not getting an opportunity for campus placement even though they may be equally brilliant or score better marks.
ITAPC will also ensure that students with innovation projects in the third year or finally year of their courses got preference in placement over others.
Vice chancellor Akshay Aggarwal said the ITAP would also try to find out job opportunities for the students among the industries of Gujarat, develop industry-academia relationship, trace multinational companies for campus interviews and keep records of placed and unplaced candidates of GTU.
