As part of its campaign ‘Meri Mati, Mera Desh’, the state government is set to organise various programmes at local levels between August 9 and 15, said an official release on Tuesday. The campaign comes under the Union government’s ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiative.

Under the campaign, soil will be collected from every gram panchayat of the country and brought to Delhi to pay homage to brave persons “who sacrificed their today for our tomorrow’. In Gujarat, the statement said, five programmes will be held at local levels between August 9 and 15.

Under the Viro ne Vandan programme, families of defence/security personnel who sacrificed their lives for the country will be felicitated. As part of Panch Pran Pratigna, pledge will be administered to people in all villages for the unity and sovereignty of the country. Also, each village panchayat will plant 75 tress under Vasudha Vandan programme.

Under Mitti Yatra from village to taluka and right up to Delhi, soil from each village will be collected in a pot and taken to Delhi by youths. Under Shila-falakam programme, names of people who sacrificed their lives for the nation will be written on a stone panel.
