The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday allegedly caught a Class-3 Additional Deputy Engineer of the Roads and Buildings Department of Naswadi taluka in Chhota Udepur district while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.
According to an ACB release, engineer Harish Sardar Chaudhary, a resident of Dabhoi Road in Vadodara and a native of Mehsana, was caught red-handed while he was allegedly accepting the second installment of a bribe amount of Rs 10 lakh from a contractor of Naswadi taluka development project.
Chaudhary allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a contractor, whose bill of Rs 1.2 crore for the construction of a drain slab was pending for clearance. The ACB said that the complainant already paid the first installment of Rs 2 lakh to Chaudhary but the deputy engineer had allegedly “been harassing the complainant for the remaining sum”.
The release said, “After approaching the ACB, the complainant agreed to lay a trap… He was arrested red-handed and booked in a case in the Chhota Udepur ACB police station under the Prevention of Corruption Act.”
Officials of the ACB said they were also probing if other senior officers were involved in the alleged corruption.
