Godhra death confirmation: HC gives two months to prepare documents

The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday granted two months’ time to the Panchmahals Principal District Judge to complete the technical procedure of preparing paper-books for the confirmation of death sentence awarded to 11 people in the 2002 Godhra train carnage case.

The special trial court for the case convicted 31 people and awarded life sentence to 11 of them last month. As a mandatory criminal provision,the trial court has to get the death sentence awarded confirmed from the HC.

When the matter reached the Division Bench of Justices R R Tripathi and P P Bhatt today,the court received a request from the Principal District Judge of Panchmahals seeking time to prepare the bulky paper-books related to the case. Considering the voluminous documents and some technical difficulties of the trial court,the court gave two months’ time. ENS
