GNLU,PDPU plan to start a course on energy laws

The Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) and the Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) are set to collaborate to start a course on legal aspects of energy policy.

The Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) and the Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) are set to collaborate to start a course on legal aspects of energy policy.

GNLU Director (Vice- Chancellor) Bimal N Patel has sought intellectual inputs and advice from the former president Dr A P J Abdul Kalam for the course.

Patel told Newsline that although the course which is to be titled “International energy law and India” is still under consideration,he is yet to chalk out a definite plan of action with his counterpart in PDPU.

“My faculty members will go to teach in PDPU and students from there can come to GLNU to learn about the legal aspects of the country’s energy policy,” said Patel.

He also said the course would undertake the study of not only the conventional sources of energy but renewable energy sources as well.

In his speech at the first convocation ceremony of the PDPU,Dr Kalam had mentioned that fossil fuels would be depleted by the next fifty or hundred years. The state government too has endorsed the collaboration plans of the two universities. At the convocation,Chief Minister Modi had said that PDPU must develop a curriculum that highlights the importance of energy laws.

Forum on legal education

The National University of Singapore (NUS) has invited GNLU to the Asian Deans’ Forum on Legal Education from 6 to 8 July 2009 to discuss issues like curriculum development,classroom pedagogy,IT solutions and teaching culture with a view to identifying areas for collaboration and mutual assistance.
