Amenities available in shortest possible time: Gandhinagar GIFT city MD
For this, he said the RFP (request for proposal) has been issued and tenders are being evaluated. “That will add value to GIFT City because that will give a natural beauty water being stored and riverfront being created,” he added.

A riverfront, entertainment zone, central park, metro connectivity, and expansion in the residential units – in an apparent bid to entice foreign universities to set up their international branch campuses in Gandhinagar’s GIFT City, its managing director Tapan Ray highlighted the future plans for the fintech hub on Tuesday. In the same breath, he added that steps are being taken to ensure the amenities are available in the “shortest possible time”.
Speaking at an event at GIFT City to mark the collaboration between India and Australia in the education sector, Tapan Ray said, “We have a high-class physical infrastructure… but talking in terms of commercial, residential, and social infrastructure which is required to make it a thriving financial services hub, we have taken a large number of steps to see that they are fulfilled in a short period of time.”
“On the social front, we are already in the process of creating a riverfront. As you know on the western bank of GIFT city is the river (Sabarmati) and we will create a riverfront that will ultimately connect to Ahmedabad. So there will be a riverfront along the Sabarmati River on both banks,” Ray stated.
For this, he said the RFP (request for proposal) has been issued and tenders are being evaluated. “That will add value to GIFT City because that will give a natural beauty water being stored and riverfront being created,” he added.
On the entertainment front, which the GIFT city is said to be much in need of, Ray said, “We will also have an entertainment zone of world class. Expression of Interest (EOI) has been done and within a short period of time, may be three years, we will get it up and running.” These are infra requirements for any vibrant city and we hope to get it created in the shortest possible time, he claimed.
“In addition, a central park that will take much less time, and is being set up near the club. In terms of connectivity, we have a metro coming up next year. We also have a personal mobility system which is on a trial basis in GIFT City. The master plan of GIFT city has been extended to add another roughly 10 sq km to make it a 14 sq km area. With all this infrastructure, it will be a vibrant city with sustainable infrastructure and most of the buildings are green and we are also aiming at net zero in the future,” he added.
On the commercial side, Ray said that out of the planned 44 million sq ft already 22 million sq ft of space has been allotted for commercial, residential, and social infrastructure. “Seventeen buildings are already being operationalised, another 30 are under construction, and another 17 are in planning. So, in another five to seven year timeframe, we will have 64 high-rise buildings within GIFT City, giving it a flavor of an international financial centre,” he shared.
“In the residential segment, we have already allotted 5,000 residential units that will help in the walk-to-work culture that we hope to promote. So even when the university students come, they would be able to walk to their campuses,” Ray underlined.
