From US,with Jazz

“We’re the jazz ambassadors of the US Department of State,” said percussionist Dobrecky at the Taj Umed,a little before a media interaction on Wednesday afternoon.

Bryant and Dobrecky will be performing at Natarani and NID. They have been playing together for almost two decades,taking time off from their own separate bands. Bryant plays with Kaleidoscope,while Bobrecky plays with two bands,On 3 and Wildflower.

Last week,they performed in Kolkata and IIT-Kharagpur. Before that,they were in Mandalay and Yangon,Myanmar’s two biggest cities. Till date,they have traveled far and wide—“44 countries on last count,” said Bryant,who carries three guitars for a performance,including a classical guitar,in which he has a master’s from the Yale School of Music. “I don’t stick to the blues or jazz scales; I do whatever works,” he said,explaining that there are different forms in the genre – from American to Latino,African and touches of flamenco.
