Four cops arrested in bribery case

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two inspectors,a constable and a writer from Vatva police station on bribery charges.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two inspectors,a constable and a writer from Vatva police station on bribery charges,on Thursday. According to the details available,Inspector A J Solanki had called complainant Kailash Gangaram — a private security guard of a construction site and an accused in a case — to the police station a few days ago to pay Rs 1 lakh to settle down the matter. The amount was finally settled at Rs 75,000. Solanki further asked Gangaram to send the money through a private person. Senior Inspector B L Chaudhary told Gangaram to pay the amount to Solanki and also to buy Solanki a flat. Vatva Constable Kartik threatened Gangaram to obey Chaudhary’s orders.

But Gangaram had taped the conversation in the police station and showed it to ACB officers in Ahmedabad.

The ACB asked Gangaram to go to the A-One Restaurant to meet one Salim Khan Pathan, who was sent by Solanki to collect the money. The complainant handed over the money to Pathan and he was caught red-handed.

ACB officers confirmed that Chaudhari and Solanki had demanded the bribe from the complainant, adding that Kartik and Solanki’s writer have also been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act for supporting their superiors.
