Former BJP councillor shot dead

The former BJP councillor of Anand municipality,Alpesh Chacko alias Navin Patel,was shot dead by unidentified gunmen from point blank range in Bazar Ganj of Anand town on Saturday evening around 7 pm. Chacko is the prime accused in the murder case of former Congress councillor Babu Girdhari Patel.

The police confirmed that the gunmen came in a white car and attacked Chacko,killing him on the spot. Chacko was earlier arrested from Borsad in 2008 along with advocate Bipin Patel and Raju Patel,in connection with Babu Patel’s murder.

But he managed to get a bail in the matter,said the police. No arrests have been made so far,and the police suspect that Chacko may have been targeted because of his connection with the mafia.
