At the inauguration of All India Livestock and Dairy Conference on Tuesday,CM Narendra Modi asked farmers from across the country to contribute iron blocks for construction of the Statue of Unity,a Sardar Patel monument to be constructed at Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadia colony in Gujarat.

Modi said,“(To build Statue of Unity),I need the help of farmers. You may think Modi is asking for money but I am asking for emotional attachment,an attachment that will last years.”

“Sardar Patel was Loh Purush (Iron Man) and we want iron pieces (tools) used by farmers. From 31st October, which is Sardar Jayanti, till 26th January we will go to villages and collect iron blocks. We need iron used in farming to commemorate the iron man, because Sardar Patel himself was a farmer’s son”,he added.

Expressing confidence that a conference like this will assit the government in helping farmers better Modi said,“We have called experts here so that we can learn from them and their experiences and contributions to fields including agriculture and rural development.”

Bihar’s Animal Husbandry Minister Giriraj Singh and the Ambassador of Denmark to India,Freddy Svane, who were present at the occasion, lauded the Gujarat growth story.

Svane said,“There is a saying,‘To Be or Not To Be’. For Gujarat it is ‘To Be’.”
