The deceased has been identified as Yogesh. He took the extreme step fearing he would fail, his family said. However, after the results were announced, it was found that he had secured 60 per cent.

Police said that on Sunday night, the Patil family had gone to the terrace of their house to sleep. Yogesh woke up in the middle of the night and hanged himself from the fan hook on the ceiling.

The incident came to light on Monday when Ravindra and his wife woke up and found Yogesh hanging.

The family informed the Dindoli police, after which officials reached the spot and sent the body to SMIMER Hospital for a post-mortem.

The police have registered an accidental death case in connection with the incident and have started an investigation.

Ravindra, in his statements to the police, mentioned that Yogesh had appeared in the board exams in March. Yogesh, a General stream student, had said that he could not perform well in two of the subjects. He feared that he would fail and was under stress, the father said, adding that they did not put any pressure on him and told him that he could reappear in June.

Talking to The Indian Express, Ravindra said, “He was shy. He never used to fight with his friends or brother. On Monday, after the board results were declared, we checked and found that he passed with 60 per cent. We had never put pressure on him.”

Dindoli police Sub-Inspector K S Solanki said, “Yogesh was under stress after two of his papers did not go well in the board examinations. He remained quiet and avoided playing with friends or talking to his family. Fearing failure, he died by suicide.”
