Amid speculation that the Gujarat government has finally decided to chargesheet him,IPS officer Rahul Sharma has moved the Gujarat High Court challenging the refusal of the state government to apprise him of the grounds on which he was issued a showcause notice.

Sharma was issued the showcause in February this year and was asked to explain why he should not be chargesheeted for preparing a CD containing mobile phone records of politicians and policemen during 2002 riots without any authority.

Sharma had prepared the CD during his short stint as an informal supervisory officer for the Naroda Patiya and Naroda Gam massacre cases.

Sharma had, subsequently, produced copies of the CD before the Nanavati-Mehta Commission and Justice U C Banerjee Commission.

The CD was instrumental in some high-profile arrests in the 2002 riots cases, like that of former minister Maya Kodnani and former VHP general secretary Jaydeep Patel.

On Thursday, apprehending some action by the state government,Sharma moved his petition through his lawyer Mukul Sinha who urged the HC to urgently hear it. Following the request, the court kept the petition for hearing before the bench of Justice Abhilasha Kumari on Friday.

According to the details, after receiving the showcause notice,Sharma had filed an RTI application and a simple application to the Additional Chief Secretary (Home),demanding to know the grounds on which the state government had issued him the showcause.

However, both his applications were turned down by the state government, which said it could not reveal the same him.

Subsequently,Sharma challenged the two orders.

Presently,Sharma is posted in Rajkot as the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Arms Unit).
