A former army man was arrested Saturday in connection with the murder of a former BJP MP’s nephew in Chhota Udepur district, police said. The incident took place on Friday evening when former BJP MP Ramsinh Rathwa’s nephew Kuldeep was shot dead at Pipladi village in Kawant taluka of Chhota Udepur, said police.

According to the police, the accused identified as Shankar Rathwa killed Kuldeep over an “old animosity”.

The police said that the accused along with his accomplice, Amla Rathwa arrived at the Pipladi village on Friday evening and opened fire at the victim.
Kuldeep, who has been politically active in the area, was the accused’s “arch rival”, said police.

Chhota Udepur Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Gaurav Agarwal said, “The incident occurred around 10pm on Friday when ex-serviceman Shankar Rathwa arrived at Kuldeep’s residence and shot him. He then fled with his accomplice, Amla on a two-wheeler…”

“Shankar Rathwa has been arrested while the search is on to track down Amla. The accused had been holding a grudge against the victim since his faction won the sarpanch election a few years ago,” said the SDPO.

Kuldeep is the son of former BJP MP from Chhota Udepur Ramsinh Rathwa’s younger brother.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep’s wife, Hansa alleged, “For the past five days, Shankar had been threatening to kill my husband… He even visited our house to threaten him. He came to our house on Friday night and shot him dead… It has happened because of the election results.”
