Dr Chag ‘suicide’: BJP MP ‘named in note’ says in shock, will cooperate with probe

On February 17, Dr Chag’s son, Hitarth, had filed a complaint with the Veraval police station, stating that his father died by suicide as Rajesh and Naran had not been returning about Rs 1.75 crore, which Dr Chag had lent them in 2008, and were instead threatening him of “dire consequences” if he demanded the money back.

In his first reaction to the alleged suicide of Dr Atul Chag of Veraval, BJP MP from Junagadh Rajesh Chudasama Saturday said that his family too was in immense shock over the death and expressed cooperation in the police investigation related to the case.

On February 12, Dr Chag, who had a hospital in Veraval town in Gir Somnath, was found hanging at his residence. A purported suicide note was recovered from his residence, in which he had blamed Rajesh Chudasama and his father Naran Chudasama for allegedly compelling him to take the extreme step.
Speaking with media persons over the case in Junagadh, Chudasama said, “Dr Chag has committed suicide. Me and my family has 35-year-old relations with Dr Chag when I was not in politics. ”

“My family is in immense shock over his death. Police is investigating into the allegations made by his (Dr Chag’s) son. I have full sympathy with (his) family. And I will cooperate with whatever investigation done by the system,” he added.

Chudasama also said, “For personal reasons, Dr Chag used to live a lonely life. My family used to send him tiffin for 15-17 years. So, because of intense relations with him, my entire family is also in shock. I pray to god to grant him peace.”

A case of accidental death was registered and a preliminary inquiry was instituted, although till date no FIR has been registered. Hitarth has filed a petition before Gujarat High Court seeking a direction to police to register an FIR in the case.

A division bench of the HC has recently issued notice to police on the petition and kept the petition for further hearing on March 28.
