Parshottam Rupala on Friday said donkey milk was the costliest and was selling at Rs 1,350 a litre. While advocating the medicinal values of goat and camel milk, Union Minister for Animal Husbandry Parshottam Rupala on Friday said donkey milk was the costliest and was selling at Rs 1,350 a litre.
He was addressing an event in Gandhinagar, where chief minister Bhupendra Patel was also present, to mark the commissioning of new animal mobile dispensary units in Gujarat.
“Now, there is a demand for goat milk. Goat rearers (from Gujarat) have met me. They have asked me to set up a meeting with Amul to help in procurement of goat milk (by the milk cooperatives), the same way cow milk is being procured. What is the problem in it? Do not be surprised if goat milk starts selling at a cost more than normal milk. This is because it (goat milk) has a lot of medicinal values,” Rupala said.
He added, “Currently, the milk of a donkey sells at Rs 1,350 per litre. It is the costliest milk in the market. A woman in Delhi is making products out of it. I asked her ‘what are you doing with such costly milk’? She had a stall in one of the events… I was told that the milk is being used in cosmetic products.”
Rupala said that both goat and camel milk have medicinal values and need to be marketed. On the importance of cows, he said: “Those who own cows will not just be considered prosperous in his village, but also in the state. I can foresee this happening in the near future. Now, systems are in place for use of not just milk, but gobar (cow dung) and gau mutra (cow urine). Cow dung is already being bought at Rs 2 a kg in our state (Gujarat) and in near future, it will rise
to Rs 4.”
“In the annual reports of our milk cooperatives, earnings from cow dung and cow urine will accompany the revenue from milk,” he added.
The minister also gave examples to stress on the importance of desi breeds of cows.
