The Ahmedabad City Civil and Sessions Court has granted anticipatory bails to two doctors associated with a Third Party Administrator (TPA) company for mediclaim policies. The two are accused of threatening a city-based doctor to get him discarded as a panel doctor of the TPA if he does not pay them Rs 8 lakh.
The two have been identified as Dr Nirman Pandya and Dr Paresh Patel from MDIndia Healthcare Private Limited, which is an authorised TPA for certain mediclaim companies.
Dr Pandya was the Senior Branch Manager of the
TPA in Ahmedabad while Dr Patel was the consultant with the company at the relevant time.
They applied for anticipatory bails after Dr Janak Sadhwani, who runs Chirayu Surgical Hospital in the Naroda area of Ahmedabad, lodged a complaint with the Ahmedabad city police against them. The duo was booked for extortion and criminal intimidation by the Sardarnagar police station.
Dr Sadhwanis hospital is one of the service providers for the TPA in Ahmedabad.
In his complaint,Sadhwani has alleged that the two doctors belonging to the MDIndia Healthcare Private Limited had come to his hospital in April and alleged that he had been over billing since long and that he might be discarded from the list of service providers of their company if he does not fulfill their demand of Rs 8 lakh.
Dr Sadhwani stated that he asked the two to show documents of him committing any wrong act in this regard. However, when the harassment and criminal intimidation by the two continued,he lodged a police complaint on May 7.
The duo had allegedly gone missing after the complaint was lodged and filed
anticipatory bail pleas. The court heard the applications together on Monday and granted them anticipatory bail for 90 days on certain conditions like submitting their passports to the police.
