Disguised as bank staff, Vadodara police nab rape accused in nine year old gangrape case

In 2016, the arrested accused allegedly kept the woman confined for a total of 20 days and repeatedly raped her before releasing her.

Disguised as bank employees, a team of Vadodara City Police on Saturday arrested one of the four accused booked in a 2016 case of gangrape in the city from Jhabua in Madhya Pradesh. He had been absconding for nearly nine years.

Police personnel from City police station in Vadodara tracked down the accused, Kamlesh Ninama, who allegedly kidnapped, illegally confided and raped a labourer who worked with him at a construction site in the city in 2016, along with three others.

Inspector RL Prajapati said that along with two assistant head constables, Sanjaysinh Udesinh and Patabhai Padmabai, Ninama’s address was traced in Jabhua.

Police first connected with the villagers and identified the house of the accused. Officials reached the house, disguised as bank employees. The policemen then took the family into confidence, stating that they were looking for the accused as he had “outstanding loans” from a bank.

The family of the accused shared his mobile number, which was then used to track down his current location, police said. Officials said that the accused was traced to Vadodara and arrested.

Assistant Commissioner of Police GB Bhambhaniya said, “As part of the drive initiated by the Commissioner of Police to track down accused in undetected cases who are still on the run, we began working on the 2016 case. The accused was arrested and will be produced in court.”
Police said that the 2016 complaint of gangrape was lodged by a woman labourer working on a construction site in Vadodara, who was abducted and taken to Rajkot by the four accused — Ninama, Shantu Ninama, Kailash Bhabhor and Kantu Bhabhor.

The victim had been confined in a house and repeatedly raped by the four men for three days. Thereafter, the three other accused, who are yet to be arrested, allegedly handed her over to Kamlesh Ninama and left.
