Dahod doctor booked under PASA for illegal abortion

Dr bharat Jadav, who is accused of illegal medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) at his hospital Sai Baba Arogya Dham in Dahod, was booked under the provisions of Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act on Thursday.

Dr bharat Jadav, who is accused of illegal medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) at his hospital Sai Baba Arogya Dham in Dahod, was booked under the provisions of Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act on Thursday. He was later sent to the Jamnagar district jail.

Jadav had been in judicial custody after his hospital was sealed by the district health authorities in March following recovery of nine skull bones and 15 other bones from the septic tank at the basement of the hospital in a raid.

“He was first booked under Section 34 of the MTP Act and Section 30 of the Medical Practice Act (MPA). Later,he was also booked under Sections 313 of the IPC (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent) and 316 (causing death of unborn child by act amounting to culpable homicide),” said Devgadh Baria Police Circle inspector J D Sukhadia.

He added,“We then felt we had enough evidence against him and decided to book him under PASA. On Wednesday, the District Magistrate gave the permission and we transferred him to the Jamnagar district court.”

Sukhadia said the police have “strong evidence” against him in the form of bones recovered during the raid. “We have over 15 sarpanchs from the taluka who have supported us. At least six women, who were tricked by the doctor into illegal MTP,have submitted affidavits against him,” he added.

Police investigation found that Jadav never gave any receipt for the treatment to the tribals. He is accused of aborting babies by giving anaesthesia to the women coming for check up at his hospital. Once the lady gained consciousness,he would inform her family that it was necessary to abort the baby to save the mother.

For such operations,he would charge anything between Rs 3,000 and Rs 6,000. “He never gave bills or receipts to the patients and not even maintained any register, which could have given us some clue about the patients who had come to him for treatment,” said Sukhadia.
