Cricketer Jacob Martin held for drinking,gets bail

Former India player and Baroda Ranji selector Jacob Martin was arrested with four others on Sunday night for drinking at a private party.

While Martin told the police that the party was held to celebrate the birthday of his daughter,one of his friends,who was also arrested,said that the group had met over drinks as one of them had brought liquor bottles from Mumbai. A local court granted them bail on Monday.

Martins party at an apartment in Gotri was busted after the police control room received a tip off about liquor being taken inside the building. On arriving at the scene,the officers of the Gotri police station seized several bottles and cans of beer,a hookah pipe and arrested five inebriated persons,including Martin. The others include Chandrashekhar Pandit,Ravi Ambrose Kahar,Sunil Kahar and Vijay Kahar.

An officer from Gotri police station said,When he was questioned,Martin told us that he and his friends had gathered to celebrate the birthday of his daughter. However,his friend said that he had visited Mumbai last week to worship the famous Lalbaugcharaja Ganesh idol and on his way back had brought alcohol bottles.

All five arrested persons were taken for medical examination and their blood samples tested positive for alcohol consumption. They were produced in a court on Monday and were granted bail.
