The police constable has been identified as Vinay Kathiriya who was attached to the Cyber Crime Cell in Ahmedabad. He allegedly shared sensitive CDR call details with Amit Kumar Singh who had a cyber security company named Cyber Plus Defence Academy India that had an office in Navrangpura, according to the police.
The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime branch has seized the belongings of Kathiriya’s computer, and mobile phone, said an official note.
“There is certain information that can be only provided by government/police officials. The police official shared the information without any permission. Further investigation is underway,” T R Gadhvi, police inspector, Ahmedabad Cyber Crime, told The Indian Express.
“We are currently investigating and doing technical analysis about the kind of records that have been compromised, what types of data has been given to him,” said Jitendra M Yadav, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad City Cyber Crime Branch.
The accused have been charged under IPC sections 166 (a) (public servant who knowingly disobeys a legal direction), 409 (criminal breach of trust by a public servant), 467 (forges a document which purports to be a valuable security or a will), 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating), 171 (wearing the garb or carrying a token used by a public servant with fraudulent intent), 114 (abettor present when offence is committed) and sections of the Telegraph Act. Kathiriya joined the police force six years ago.
