The Ahmedabad rural police arrested three persons who had allegedly killed their friend and dumped his body on Kheda Road. The body remained unidentified for over two months until the police cracked down on a gang of house-breakers from the city.
The victim has been identified as one Asgar Ali,a burglar from Danilimda. Together with his gang members Imam Ali Ansari,Zafar Sheikh,Abdul Pathan alias Kalu,Siddique Baloch and Iqbal Sheikh,he had robbed a tobacco companys warehouse in Aslali.
The accused were identified when the Ahmedabad rural police recently called in a few people for questioning on suspicion that they too were involved in housebreaks. During their questioning they confessed to robbing the Aslali warehouse and also disclosed the reason why one of their accomplices was missing.
Imam Ali,his relative Taufiq and a third person have been arrested for the murder,while two others who aided in the crime,are absconding.
As for the case,the accused,including Asgar Ali,had broken into the warehouse of Goa Gutkha nearly six months ago and looted over 30 sacks of tobacco worth over Rs 6 lakh. They wanted to sell off the loot to paan shops outside Ahmedabad. Asgar and Imam Ali were at loggerheads over the share of profit.
On March 19,Imam Ali,with the aid of Taufiq and few others,killed Asgar,set the body on fire and dumped it at the Kheda bypass on National Highway 8. The police later recovered it in a half-burnt condition. Imam has also been booked for robbery in the warehouse along with the other gang members.
